The Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site celebrates the life and work of noted poet, Nicholas Vachel Lindsay (1879-1931). Operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, the site offers a wide variety of events for the public, including the “Poets in the Parlor” reading series, “Artist in Residence” exhibitions, History Comes Alive events (often in conjunction with other local historic places), and lectures and workshops for writers, educators and anyone interested in the life, writings, artwork and ideals of Vachel Lindsay

From I-55N, merge onto 6th Street (left lanes). Stay straight on 6th Street at I72-W/Jacksonville overpass. Turn left on Edwards Street. Turn left at 5th Street. The Home is on the corner of Edwards and 5th Street.
From I-72E/US-36E, merge onto 6th Street heading toward Springfield. Turn left on Edwards Street. Turn left at 5th Street. The Home is on the corner of Edwards and 5th Street.
From I-55/I-72, merge onto Clear Lake Avenue heading toward Springfield. Clear Lake Avenue becomes Jefferson Street. From Jefferson, turn left onto 5th Street. The Home is on the corner of Edwards and 5th Street.

Parking
Meters are available on 5th Street and 4th Street between Cook and Edwards. (No parking along 5th Street between 4-6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.) Weekend parking is free of charge.
